PLAY POOL AT CLUB9

Authentic Pub Pool Experience

English pool brings the classic Australian pub game into a premium venue. It requires strategy and careful cue ball control. It is the perfect game to play while catching up with mates over a beer.

What is English Pool?

English pool is a popular cue sport played on a 7 foot table with tight, rounded pockets. The game uses 16 balls in total, consisting of a white cue ball, a black 8 ball, and two sets of seven unnumbered object balls, typically coloured red and yellow.

What Makes English Pool Different?

The equipment changes how you play the game entirely.

  • We offer 8 premium 7 foot Rasson Apollo tables covered in traditional English Green Strachan cloth.
  • The tables are smaller, measuring 7 feet instead of 9 feet.
  • The pockets are tighter and feature rounded edges, making it difficult to pot balls resting along the cushions.
  • The balls are smaller and are simply plain reds and plain yellows, along with the black ball.

The Main Game Format

International Rules 8 Ball is the main modern standard for pub pool competitions.

Players are assigned either the red balls or the yellow balls. You must pot your entire colour group and then sink the black ball to win. The tight pockets mean you have to plan your shots carefully.

HAVE MORE QUESTIONS?

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Both terms refer to the exact same style of game played with red and yellow balls on tables with rounded pocket jaws.

The key difference between the two games comes down to three things: table size, pocket shape, and ball design.

  • Table size: English pool tables are 7 feet long, while American tables are 9 feet long.
  • Pocket shape: English pockets have tight, rounded jaws, whereas American pockets are cut straight.
  • Ball types: English pool uses unnumbered red and yellow balls. American pool uses numbered spots and stripes.

 American v British pockets

The tighter, rounded pockets require much more precision. It makes the game more about strategy and exact placement rather than power.
